My work is inspired by Kawabata Yasunari's Nobel Prize Winning novel, Snow Country. "The light moved across the face, though not to light it up....as the eye and the light were superimposed one on the other, the eye became a weirdly beautiful bit of phosphorescence on the sea of evening mountains." The astonishing beauty of an instance in which the eye and the light become one entity is captured within the words. And it is its ephmerality that is most touching. At that moment, the train is moving and time is flowing. The beauteous instance exists in the present, but will soon become the past in the imminent future. Such stunning moments are destined to disappear, but they will never decay in the preservation of art.
