Under Sixteen Children subsidy

This subsidy is available to parents who have a community services card or a High Health user card for an individual child and covers the eye examination, frame and lenses. It can also be used for replacement lenses or breakages during the year. The subsidy is $281.25 including GST per year.

An extra $50 is available if an adult size frame is required.

Paterson Burn Optometrist has an exclusive value added package which covers exam, frame and stock lenses for $249.00.

Children’s vision and learning difficulties

Vision is our most dominant sense and provides the brain with around sixty percent of everything it knows. Visual skills give us the means to locate, identify and remember what we see, and it relates to motor, thinking, speech and perceptual abilities.

All of these areas can be affected when the visual processing system is not functioning correctly. If these critical visual skills have not been fully developed, learning becomes a difficult and stressful process. In fact, many children and adults who experience learning difficulties, actually have a vision related problem.
