Art Awards Terms and Conditions

Please read these competition rules carefully. If you enter our competition, we will assume that you have read these rules and that you agree to them.

  1. The artwork must follow our chosen theme which is “Through the eyes of another - past, present, future”. Choose any person living, dead or fictional and tell a story through their eyes. You are free to use your own interpretation of this theme.
  2. The artwork must be submitted on a blocked canvas, size of the canvas must be 30cm x 30cm available at all general stationery retailers.
  3. The competition is open to all year 12 and 13 art students who attend secondary schools or home schooled in the Waikato, Coromandel, and Newmarket, Auckland surrounding suburbs.
  4. We will accept up to four original paintings and mixed media works (e.g. A work on canvas that combines oil paint, newspaper collage, chalk, ink) - all must be original ideas. Photographs will not be accepted.
  5. The Judge’s decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  6. Firmly glue/affix the entry form to the back of your canvas so immediate identification can be made.
  7. If you do not wish to make your artwork available for sale on our website please indicate this on the entry form.
  8. If you are happy to have your artwork sold on our website you must also indicate that you are in agreement to donate 20% of the final price to Diabetes New Zealand Waikato.
  9. The minimum starting bid/reserve will be $15.00. This means that if your entry sells at the minimum bid you will receive $12.00 and $3.00 will go to Diabetes New Zealand. If you want to nominate a higher reserve, make sure you detail this on the entry form where indicated. The highest starting bid/reserve price accepted is $50.
  10. If your artwork sells you will be contacted and the money will be paid to you within 30 days of the sale.
  11. For delivery of your artwork, please follow one of the following options: WAIKATO AND CORMANDEL ENTRIES - a) Hand deliver to any Paterson Burn Optometrist practice, for details please visit our website on www.patersonburn.co.nz/locations OR b) Courier to Paterson Burn Optometrists, Excellence in Art Awards, 387 Anglesea Street, Hamilton, 3204. AUCKLAND ENTRIES - Hand deliver to Paterson Burn Optometrists, Excellence in Art Awards, 2 Gillies Street, Newmarket 1023.
  12. If your artwork does not sell or you do not wish it to be sold, it will be made available for collection at your local Paterson Burn branch after Monday 15th May 2017. Paterson Burn does not take any responsibility for paintings that are damaged in the post.
  13. You are required to provide us with a brief outline about your painting, 200 words maximum. This will go on the auction website and the exhibition catalogue. Here’s an example to help you out - “My work is inspired by the third eye, the weaving of creativity and intuition and the cosmos. Various colours of all kinds are used to represent the perpetual life force and that every being or soul is different to another” (Kavita Harcharan Sing, Hillcrest High School, 2013 Competition Entrant).
